Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the advantages of using integral firesleeve vs the standard orange firesleeve?
A: The Brown Integral firesleeve is molded onto the hose, and the orange firesleeved hoses are a sleeve that is clamped onto the hose. Since the integral firesleeve is molded, it helps prevent flammable fluid from being soaked into it such as with the orange firesleeve in the event that it is cut or ripped. Also, the integral makes the hose smooth and easier to clean.
Q: I can make my own hoses; why should I buy manufactured hoses?
A: Liability, testing, proper assembly, and cost are the 3 biggest factors, just like everything else in the aviation realm. If you assemble the hose, you are liable if that hose fails in the field, and the only way to test is to install and see if it leaks. That is too much of a gamble. With that in mind, when we receive hoses in to duplicate, there is typically something wrong with the assembly on roughly 98% of the homemade hoses. In terms of cost by time, you invest your man hours into remaking hoses; you have actually lost money.
Q: Are Teflon hoses lifetime of the aircraft?
A: No part lasts forever, and that includes Teflon hoses. Teflon hoses only have a lifetime SHELF LIFE, and once they are installed, the time starts. The usable life is different per manufacturer, which in case some do allow the Teflon hoses to be installed longer than rubber hoses. Our suggestion is to check with the aircraft manufacturer to find out what usable life is allowed.
Q: Can you cross reference other manufacturer part numbers?
A: Absolutely! We have a vast collection of other manufacturers’ part numbers and can cross reference any hose part number you have to our Stratoflex part number. Generally, this saves you time and money in the process.
Q: Are certifications supplies with the hoses, and can you provide 8130-3 forms?
A: A Certification of Conformance (C of C) is provided with every order. This states that all hoses have been manufactured to the TSO specifications. 8130-3 certifications can be provided, and an Export form will be required.
Q: What is TSO type C and TSO type D hoses?
A: TSO Type C: This is a rubber hose with a firesleeve, such as 111, 156, and 130 hoses. TSO Type D: This is a Teflon hose with a firesleeve, such as 124 and 171.
Q: Do you have hose kits?
A: We have hundreds of aircraft kits. To get pricing or to order it is as easy as calling or emailing us with your aircraft model and serial number.
Q: Can you re-use my old fittings?
A: No. We are certified as a new manufacturer and will only be able to use new fittings; however, we can measure your old hoses if you send them in to us and duplicate them exactly.
